Your 2023 Road Captains

Hi, I am John Ulery and at this point I’m standing on the shoulders of Safety Officers before me… including using much of the information provided by our prior Safety Officer Bob Clark. With that said, I am the 2023 Chapter Safety Officer; I want to welcome you to the Safety section of the North Hampton, NH Seacoast Harley-Davidson H.O.G. Chapter website. We are very committed to “Riding Safely and Having Fun”. Safety has been, and continues to be, an important part of our Chapter rides. Whether you ride alone, with friends, or in a group, safe riding is something that and should be practiced every time you ride. At the North Hampton, NH Seacoast Harley Davidson H.O.G. Chapter, we can help by providing safe riding tips and information on rider education. Group riding requires additional safety skills. Our Lead Road Captains are committed to helping in the development of group riding skills during our Chapter rides. Basic and advanced riding skills are offered by the Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy at SHD. It is a great resource that is available to us and comes highly recommended. Check it out to see if a scheduled class will work for you.
With the information available to us today there are many sources we can learn from.
Ride Planning – Harley Davidson offers a very valuable tool for planning your next ride, the Ride Planner. There is good information on the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) website, including the MSF T-Clocs inspection Checklist, which is helpful to review prior to each ride to make sure your bike is ready.
There is a wealth of information on the internet regarding safety. I find that the MSF website is well worth the time you can spend. The subjects range from “You and your motorcycle riding tips” to “You and your three wheeler riding tips” and on to things like Protective gear and Quick Tips just name a few. If you have time and want to test your motorcycle knowledge try these 48 BRC questions from the MSF Basic Riders Course. Blogs are also a way to increase your awareness when riding. One that I have been following “Stayin’ safe’s Blog” has helped me more than once. Under the header there is the name of the next page. There are many good articles in there. Remember that Blogs are sometimes one person’s opinion but with that said and an open mind they have good information.
Simple things like App’s for your cell phone can also help. We recommend putting an I.C.E. app on your phone. There are many free versions for both android and apple. I.C.E. stands for In Case of Emergency. It can help in case your family needs to be contacted, medical history, doctor information and allergies. If you chose not to put it on your phone there are paper copies you can carry in your wallet or “dog tags” you can purchase.
Chapter rides
Most of our rides originate at the Seacoast Harley Davidson dealership. There are a few things for you to know before you show up for a ride.
- Arrive prepared: gas tank full, proper gear, good attitude!
- Posted run time is the Departure time: please arrive 1/2 hour (… at least 15 minutes) prior to that time. This allows time to socialize and to learn specifics about the ride… and for bladder conditioning.
- All current chapter members need only sign in on the ride sheet. Any non-chapter members must also sign a release. This is extremely important! Minors require special releases (2) which must be signed by a parent or legal guardian (Chapter event release form for minors) as well as one signed by the minor (Minors assumption of risk release form) If you plan to bring a minor on a ride, you can download the releases from our website via the links below or get them from a Road Captain.
- A rider briefing will be held just prior to departure. This briefing will establish a schedule for gas and rest stops tell the group the intended route and provide other pertinent information. The Lead Road Captain will also review the group riding guidelines at the briefing.

North Hampton NH Seacoast Chapter Alcohol Policy
Our Chapter adheres to the Harley Owner’s Group recommended alcohol policies and procedures.
- No alcohol before or during a ride or event
- Our Chapter will not furnish alcohol at rides or events
Our Chapter rides and events are alcohol free. That information will be added to the sign in sheets for our Chapter rides as a reminder.
- Alcohol before a ride – a rider will be unable to participate
- Alcohol during a ride – participant will be asked to leave the ride
This policy will apply to both open and closed Chapter rides and events.
Note: Liquor liability coverage is not provided by the Chapter general liability insurance policy!
